Music is Back at O’Connells!

It's been a fairly quiet two years around here without the sound of musicians playing! When we had to close in March 2020 we had just been getting regular music going in O’Connells and having great music on every week was something we really wanted to do! People who visit us would know O’Connells as a place to come and meet with some friends or family or even by yourself, to enjoy the warm atmosphere, enjoy the view and also importantly enjoy a drink and a bite to eat. So in 2019 we decided ‘Why not get some more great music too!’. Then when people visit us to eat and drink they could hear fantastic music and just have a great time out in Howth either as a local or someone visiting for the day!

The trad session every Sunday at O'Connells Howth

Eric & Friends Trad Session Every Sunday

Eric and Friends trad session has been on in O’Connells every Sunday for about thirty years now! It's great craic and anyone is welcome to join in with an instrument or sing a song. We love having all the gang who come down every Sunday and play all the pub classics, sing songs and tunes. They sit in the lounge and play all the great songs the way they are supposed to be enjoyed and everyone around Howth and beyond loves to come in for it. During the pandemic we really missed them. Not being able to walk in and grab a pint and hear them play away was tough. It was tough for us but it was also really tough for the guys not having a place to meet up to play the songs. We were so happy in Feb when they got to come back! It was a great day and there was something magic in the air..... The SONGS!! That sort of magic that was in the air was almost like the kind you see back in the roaring twenties after prohibition was lifted. That joyful feeling was in the pub once the music came back! It really was kind of like that!! Ever since that joyous feeling has come back to the place we have decided that seeing as we were all missing live music for all those months, we really want to bring it back and that's what we are doing!!
